Average quality, good value for its price

The picture quality is ok and night vision functioned as expected. The camera's field of view was too narrow and zoom was too far for my requirements as a backyard camera. I had to twist off the lens cover, buy a separate wide-angle fish-eye lens to get the proper coverage. The picture quality suffered of course. I highly recommend that buyers understand how wide an area they need to monitor. Installation was simple and I'm glad that many CCTV cameras are using standardized 12V power cords and BNC to RCA connectors so any DVR/VCR system can be made compatible with a simple adapter.

Interesting toy, no support

Interesting toy, no support. When first installed picture was great both during the day and at night. Picture quality started to break down over time to the point that IR was all but useless. Replaced cameras and had same result. Installation is simple. Don't expect any support or warranty backup from Swann. Swann does not seem to be interested in taking care of their product and our experience was that they were grossly unprofessional. Even getting a phone call returned was a major task.PRO: Inexpensive, easy to install. Interesting toy.Con: Picture quality breaks down over time with IR mode worse than daylight mode. Don't try to ID anything from it as the picture quality is too poor. Don't waste your time trying to get support or warranty service from Swann.Having purchased these units and replaced them twice, if you are interested in any serious level of security or ID go to a better quality unit not Swann.

Security Camera

I am very happy with the Swann Bulldog security camera. It is easy to use and set up. I have it hooked up to my TV/VCR and I pop a tape in every night to watch my car which had been vandalized. I have it in my apartment window and I can easily park in 4 spaces and can easily view it. It's very clear. I can also adjust it if I am parked a little out of it's current range.

It works and is inexpensive

Mine came with a 6mm lens - not the 4mm specified (and preferred). Luckily I purchased the wide angle lens which allows locating the camera in a corner.Pros: Inexpensive, has top and bottom standard mounting (threaded). Clear picture. Infrared only active in DARK conditions.Cons: Not the 4mm lens specified (I almost think I might have received a unit that was returned with a non-oem lens on it.) Infrared lights on front glow (red) visibly at all times - not super bright but definitely visible. Threading for lenses was rough. No way to deactivate infrared mode.

Great Professional Camera for the Money

I'm building a surveillance system. I coupled this with Avermedia's product card (NV7000), and it works wonderfully! The picture quality is awesome. It is a far outcry from the other cameras we have tried in that it is extremely better, and the others were in the same price range. The night vision is fine, but can use some boosting for more distance. But, you can get those IR boosters to do that. The picture quality is great in both color and the black and white. Also, no jumping of the images. I found the combination to be a wonderful alternative to higher end and higher costing systems available as kits.On the other end of things, I found it a little longer setting up. It took me one day to get the system going. But, once it was setup, it is amazing. I believe it would couple well with any of the Avermedia cards to be honest. But, I cannot rate it with them since I've only tried it with the NV7000.The 4mm lense is better than most cameras (which seem to range from 6mm to 12mm) for more area of coverage. But, I found wide angle lenses readily available for it on Amazon.

Honest review, from a security expert.

I am a mid-20's tech-geek, that happens to work in private security. I do a lot of camera work, so my expectations are always high. Our neighborhood has had a lot of break ins, so this system has a purpose...to make sure I put the guy behind bars. This camera was very easy to install, and the brackets went on very secure. I also purchased an Aposonic DVR card for a dedicated PC with 500gb's of storage, so keep in mind that when I refer to video quality it is describing the video after being converted to digital. So far I have been recording 4 shots, at 640x480 @ 100% quality and in a week have only used 4% of my storage capacity.The housing design is very slick, and is by no means an "eye sore."The IR lights are powerful enough to view the immediate area of the camera, but the quality deteriorates at about 30 ft. The iris adjusts very quickly if any light sources enter the shot (ie: headlights). I purchased 5 of these cameras, all for outdoor use (however I only used 4...I ruined one, which I will explain later). This camera does capture a wide angle, so I probably could have covered my entire house/yard using 2-3.Pros-Crisp, clear shot during the day. Adequate shots in the night.-Very solid, great quality-Great design, which is also very functional-Great Autofocus, Iris, and Color.Cons-The factory cable is built in, and cannot be replaced if ruined (that's how I ruined a camera)-Wires are accessible when camera is positioned at certain angles.-Very fast movement (such as wind blowing) makes the camera appear very pixelated.Overall recommendation:A+ This product is great for home security, or to cover large areas. If this is to catch shoplifters, you may want to go with something that gets you a closer shot.Side Note:This camera does not include a power supply, so make sure you purchase one. Also, be careful when loosening the enclosure as I stripped the security screw....and I had to drill it out.

Audio Mic - just thrown in box - Not integral to camera.

The "microphone" model is just the standard camera with a seperate external microphone add-on: it looks like a 12inch siamese cable (but it's 3-way:power-in, power-out, audio-out) with a tiny mic wraped in tape. The "microphone" is just thrown in the box of their standard model. Over the last six months I've bought 6 dome cameras from warehouserseller: two 420 line with power supply; two, of the "microphone" and two of the 480 line models (power supply extra). The manufacturer's spec sheet is the same for ALL cameras that I received. The camera housing varies a little (pull-apart or twist (or screw) off). As to the Videosecu label and serial, most the cameras I ordered didn't not have it, but Jenny who answers the phone (and does tech support) swears everything is good. OK, the cameras work fine. The 480 line camera had a sticker on the outside of the box, but inside the box the manufacture's spec sheet says that its a 420 line camera.I like the camera (all cameras I orderd appeard to have the same resolution) and warehouseseller ships quickly.I recommend ONLY the standard model ($65.00) that comes with the power supply, because that's what you'll probably get anyway.These dome cameras are fish-eye wide-angle: good as a front-door cam, back or front-yard cam. For a driveway get the swann Bulldog (bullit type) cam. To keep an eye on my car in the street, I use the swann.Mike the K

Promising but falls short

Pros:- Looks cool.- Has optical zoom, a rare and potentially very useful feature at this price point.- Has IR-cut filter for truer colors, although I don't think this is mentioned in the feature listing.- Sharp image when zoomed out.- Good color.- Defaults to DHCP on initial boot so it will be on your local subnet.Cons:- Bad loss of focus when zoomed in. Largely nullifies the optical zoom feature, which is why I purchased the camera.- No focus adjustment.- Software asks for password at two separate steps of remote access. It's bad enough when you have to do it once. And the first one doesn't even let you use the return key to enter, you have to click the button with the mouse.- Wi-Fi stopped working after 48 hours of use. Have rebooted everything multiple times and checked settings. Still works on wired ethernet.- Stupid mini CD-ROM that doesn't work in many drives.- Chinese printed instruction book. HINT: the default password is blank, unlike most other IP cameras that use 123456.- Insane animated documentation that goes too fast to read anything and can't be paused. Thankfully an English PDF is included.

Nah, cheap camera from some backyard factory in China

It loses wifi link very often. So, i have to be resetting and reconnecting many times a week.Construction is very low quality and the integrated software (web server) is rudimentary and awful to use.I gave it 2 stars because the software it brought for recording in a separate CD is very good.

Very "cool" PTZ camera.

Having used several PTZ cameras over the last several years, I have found this camera to meet all my expectations. It was easy to setup and install. The company that makes this camera makes several OEM brands, i.e. FOSCAM, Loftek, Agasio and probably several more. As they all have basically the same specs and the configuration is the same. What is different are the features and pricing that you will find. I have read several reviews where the reviewers have really been hard on the details, especially on the focus of the zoom feature. Well, I have found the focus to be good, could it be better, yes. But for the price, you really cannot go wrong with this camera. Unless you want to spend upwards of $300, I would highly recomment this camera.
