By Steve Shepard
Seemingly a 'good deal' for around $50. However I soon regretted not going with the C5900 (IF staying with ESky) Also the promised firmware upgrade for the C5900 has not materialized. (none for C5700 - I get the feeling it's being phased out from a rather large inventory. Software upgrades do not seem to be forthcoming, something I felt necessary as the camera seems to take on its own life after a few hours either randomly wandering its field of view or just taking a siesta and forgetting to awaken.Conceptually, it seems a good design with lots of features even if twice the price but mine (can't generalize here) seems to be plagued with glitches. I positioned it outside in front and back when needed, making certain that it was well protected from wind and rain (can't control humidity - the IR lights for 'night vision' don't work 'through' a window, they just 'bounce it back in your face leaving only a useless white image, probably characteristic of most IR webcams.) Unfortunately, either humidity or constant motion (both?) over about six months I operated it, did it in. It got rather 'creaky' towards its final days despite the fact that I seldom used it a full 24 hours and only several 2-4 days a week. Never close to 24 x 7. When I found 'the body' it was dry but no webcam-CPR was successful - goes without saying that with no warranty or guarantee, I paid US$50 for an intro 'Webcam 101' experience with a fairly full featured but short lived beast. My thought is that the company may be operating on a shoestring, or may be a US based 're-seller' of some mother company located offshore. Support is nil and an IR webcam with programmable movement needs to possess superior weatherproofing and better wear-resistant moving parts. Advice is do your research and, of course, you generally get what you pay for. R.I.P.
