Product Description

The KARE N5402JV Wireless/Wired Network IP cameras features in free DDNS,
MSN host, pan/tilt function, night vision ability, remote internet viewing,
motion detect as well as email alert via email or upload image to ftp. This KARE
N5402JV is compatible with Linux/Win98/Win7/Win2000/Win XP/Vista/MAC OS and all
standard browsers (IE8,Firefox,Chrome,Safari etc.) to suffice your different
preferences on operating systems and browsers( no sound under Firefox ). This
device has very appropriate dimensions for indoor installation. It has all the
main features that many other IP cameras have and also have the features many
other cameras don't have (free DDNS, MSN host). Both the high-performance and
decent price contribute to your wise purchase.

Main Features Introduction:

Free DDNS

Manufacturer has set up a server in local US and gave this benefit to buyers.
Each camera comes with "DDNS" attached on a label at the bottom of camera. There
is no need for you to register a new one, it especially gives much convenience
for those people who don't know how to get a "DDNS". You can enter the "DDNS" to
PC software or APP of Smartphones to convenient viewing.

MSN Host
This device can enable you log in multiple MSN accounts on it. Once you add
an idle MSN in the camera (you are also supposed to add it to your own MSN
list), just send a "request message" to the idle MSN, you will be responded with
the view link. The purpose of this feature is mainly for you to easily get
access to the camera without any thinking. It's also a great idea to share the
idle MSN with your families who don't know much about network knowledge.

Motion Detect and Email Alert

It's impossible to view the camera all the time, let motion detect function help
you. Whenever there is a move, it snapshots images and upload to your email or
FTP, Record video on your local PC

5Very pleased skeptic
By Ramo
Pros:- Reasonably easy setup, took me less than one hour to have camera up and running on network- Best value when compared to competition- Camera resolution, even in low light is greatCons:- User guide mildly confusing (some broken english)Overall - I was looking for an inexpensive camera to 'get my feet wet' in the IP Camera world. Reading reviews of the more popular brands (Cisco, Foscam and others) just led to more confusion. So in the end, since I was really just a price shopper I decided on the previously unreviewed KARE N5402JV. So far I am not disappointed... at all! Setup was reasonably easy (IF you consider yourself on the technical side and are familiar with IP architecture, configuring a router and generally configuring an IP based device). Although setup seemed fairly intuitive to me, I realize I have a great leg up on the average user.Things could be a lot easier if KARE would have someone rewrite their installation manual, one with an understanding of how to guide the non-technical user through an install (I'd volunteer). Without it they *may* be limiting their sales of an otherwise fine product. After installing my first I ordered 2 more.If I get a chance I'll add a more extensive review after I've used the camera a bit more and under varying circumstances.June 7, 2011 - Just an additional comment for now. I've had my first camera up and running for 2 weeks now and still very happy. I set up the motion-sensed, picture taking, send me an email function and it hasn't skipped a beat. I opted for wireless rather that run a cable to the camera and have no problems with a good connection (router is on 2nd floor, camera on first). I get a couple of shots a day of my dog and cat when they decide to stir. The camera is hooked up to an X-10 Appliance module and that too is on a timer. That makes it easy to shut it off when needed (using a Palm Pad remote). So to avoid getting unnecessary self portraits I turn it off when in the room. If I forget to turn it back on, it's on an X-10 schedule to turn on every day, a couple of times to ensure it's up and running if I'm not there. As I mentioned previously, I purchased 2 more cameras and will install soon. At that time I'll be taking notes on the rough spots in the manual. Will post again when I have finally installed the additional cams.

5Best ip wireless camera I've seen. And I have a bunch.
By George Robertson
The manual wouldn't open in word, had to use open office. With firmware update, works great with internet explorer, firefox, and with Safari. Great gadget for the price! Also allows you to view multiple cameras through one forwarded port, without special software.I have dlink, linksys, trendnet, hootoo, and others. This is my best camera. Also works with security spy ( without pan/tilt). Just say its a dlink 900.But the manual is on one of those dang mini CDs that nothing modern will accept anymore...

1DEFECTIVE product pattern established
By Albert M. Syeles
I had the same problem as reviewer GC. ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.It would not search for a wireless network. Status Indicator is supposed to: "Slow flicker(one per 2 second)"Cindicates the device is searching for network." It does NOT search. Instead it comes on for 3 seconds, then goes off and stays off.I was able to get it to work with hardwire network cable (and the Status Indicator behaved as documented for hardwire), but that's not what I bought it for. There is indeed not user support available, so you can only return it for a refund.Since this is clearly NOT an isolated case, don't buy from this manufacturer.
